Downloads and data

The map, the reference pages, the PDF and the workbook are all generated from one data file, so the counts never disagree. Version 1.0.1, data version 2026.09.13, generated 2026-09-13, current through 12 September 2026.

PDFPDF referenceLetter size. The same text as the reference pages: reading the map, how the region assembled itself, the land and its owners, five mechanisms, network metrics with the outside share, method, source register and index of nodes. ExcelNode and edge datasetRead me, Nodes (with lane, district, entity of record, evidence class, module acres, place year basis, confidence, sources and metrics), Edges, Operations, Personnel moves, Districts with formulas, Outside share, Network metrics, source register and data dictionary. JSONdata.jsonThe single source: nodes, edges, sources, the outside share block, release and data version, cutoff and the county basemap used by the Cities view. ModuleBusinessFlare® GIS moduleThe Heartland Agricultural Land Module, version 1.0: the parcel scale land base, classes, districts, ownership split, owner table and announced conversions this map states as its source of record.

What is in the data

243 nodes of six kinds: operations and companies, people, towns, agencies and public bodies, organisations, and events and recognitions, each assigned to one of eleven lanes of the economy and to one of four districts or three clusters. 329 directed edges of twelve types: unit or member of, founded, land or role moved to, grew into, became, tied venture or seat, built, program, permit or lease over, appears in, collaboration, supported and influenced. Every node carries a confidence grade (High, Medium or Low), source ids, a status as of the cutoff date, a place year with its basis, and computed metrics: degree, distinct neighbours, betweenness on the full graph, betweenness on the location and lineage graph, and the outside share.

The source register holds 299 sources (2 book, 140 official, 57 press, 100 reference), cited by id beside claims in the reference, in the node entries and in the Sources column of the workbook. The rules for inclusion, timeline placement, districts and the people on the map are set out in Reading the map; the evidence standard, the module's role as source of record and the open items are in Method. Land figures are the module's and are stated, never recomputed.
