The February 2012 settlement with Sierra Club and river groups clears mining of the 10,856 acre Hardee County extension, requires the 4,171 acre Peaceful Horse Ranch in DeSoto County to pass to conservation, and preserves most wetlands on the tract [PRN12]. The mine historically produces nearly 20 percent of United States phosphate rock, as reported [PRN12][PERM64].
