Alico forms in 1960 from properties spun off by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad's land subsidiary; Ben Hill Griffin Jr takes majority control in 1972 [ALHIST][WBHG]. On 6 January 2025 the company announces the wind down of Alico Citrus, citing greening and hurricane losses after a decade in which its production fell about 73 percent; the Tropicana agreement ends in May 2025 and grove land moves to sale, lease and development [ALPR25][AL10K][ALSEC3].
