An Okeelanta cooperative of 1946 mills with Puerto Rican machinery, is foreclosed in 1949 and reorganized in 1952; South Porto Rico Sugar buys it in 1964, Gulf and Western in 1967, and the Fanjul brothers acquire Okeelanta with about 90,000 acres in 1984 [JMFS]. The site processes more than six million tons of cane a year, as reported [CLUIO].
