Established in 1962 by Fernando de la Riva and Cuban expatriate partners backed by Henry Ford II, and acquired by the St. Joe Company in 1972 [JMFS]. The federal and state governments agree in December 1997 to buy the plantation and the sale of 50,960 acres completes in 1999 for 133.5 million dollars, the region's first great land reversal [CWH97][SB10][ELCT].
