Incorporated in 1922 on drained muck, Pahokee ships winter vegetables north in refrigerated trains and is called the Winter Vegetable Capital of the World in the 1930s, as reported by a 1939 federal guide [WPAH]. After Cuban supply is cut, agriculture shifts to mechanized sugarcane around the Osceola Farms mill of 1960 [WPAH][JMFS].
